As part of the redesign of its institutional signage strategy, the Université du Québec à Montréal entrusted Generique Design with the design and implementation of a new generation of exterior signs across its campus. The project aims to modernize and unify the identification of campus buildings while creating a distinctive and contemporary visual signature.
Nearly 100 cast aluminum shells were installed at over 40 entrances, using a modular system that allows the signs to be configured in single, double, or triple units, either vertically or horizontally, depending on the site requirements. Each sign combines cast aluminum, stainless steel, and backlit acrylic: the lettering appears black by day and bright white at night, enhancing both readability and visual impact.
Generique Design supported the university from the early strategic stages through to fabrication and installation, developing a system adaptable to the architectural diversity of the urban campus. Each molded shell features a unique natural texture, the result of the plaster-casting process, lending the ensemble a rich and distinctive materiality.
