Generique Design collaborated with Enclume on behalf of the City of Gatineau to develop a signature signage project that highlights the identity of the Quartier-du-Musée neighbourhood. Inspired by the “matchstick houses” emblematic of the area’s local architecture, the intervention creates a dialogue with the built heritage.
The project consists of three stations, each featuring a sculptural element and an interpretive stele. Made of painted aluminum and thermo-modified ash, these structures combine durability and aesthetics while blending seamlessly into the public space.
Technologically innovative, Quartier-du-Musée marks Generique Design’s first fully energy-autonomous installation. Each station is equipped with a solar-powered lighting system, with batteries and control units fully integrated into the structures. This approach ensures optimal energy autonomy and long-term performance.
Generique Design was responsible for industrial design, technology integration, fabrication, and installation—contributing to a project praised by local residents for its contemporary and sustainable approach to showcasing the neighbourhood’s history.
