With Transparency Display, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer explores the boundaries between visibility and opacity through an interactive glass triptych. Generique Design created a custom, minimalist, and discreet structure to integrate addressable liquid crystal glass panels, along with all necessary wiring and control systems.
The work, composed of three glass panels measuring 3 metres high by 1 metre wide, reveals and conceals real-time portraits by modulating the transparency and translucency of the liquid crystal pixels. The powder-coated aluminum structure was designed for stability, concealing all technical components in its base while minimizing any visible hardware around the panels to preserve the visual purity of the installation.
Modular and transportable in sections, Transparency Display combines technological sophistication with refined aesthetics. Generique Design handled technology integration, fabrication, and artistic support to ensure optimal presentation of the work, notably at Bitforms Gallery in New York.
