The Gamelin seesaw is an urban play structure designed by Generique Design for the namesake extension along Sainte-Catherine Street in Montreal. The project features three 16-foot-long seesaws installed on a shared protective surface measuring 76 feet by 8 feet, composed of 19 interlocked modules.
The key innovation lies in the development of a modular, cost-effective impact-absorbing surface system. Unlike traditional permanent installations used in playgrounds, this mobile solution serves not only as a protective surface but also as ballast to securely anchor the seesaws. This dual function enhances user safety while simplifying both installation and mobility.
Made of powder-coated aluminum and stainless steel, the Gamelin seesaw combines strength, durability, and a refined aesthetic. Generique Design provided concept development, industrial and mechanical design, fabrication, and installation of this urban play feature. Entirely conceived by the studio, the Gamelin seesaw is available on order—offering a playful and safe solution for activating public spaces.
